Clear, thorough, and genuinely useful

Finally, a book that treats javascript with the care it deserves.

I have been working with javascript for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. I found myself making notes in the margins, which is always a good sign. One of those books that pays for itself within the first few chapters. Highly recommended.

Did not live up to the description

Disappointing. The description oversold what is actually inside.

I was looking for something that would bridge the gap between tutorials and proper reference material, and this does that well. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The book rewards careful reading. Skimming it would be a mistake. Not one I will be returning to. There are better introductions to javascript available.

A superb guide

Outstanding. I kept finding reasons to come back to it.

This is the third book I have read on javascript this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with javascript.
